The Platte River Power Authority’s Ka$h for Kilowatts™ program helps to offset growth in electricity demand by promoting the most efficient, productive use of electricity.

The program is available to commercial customers served by the municipal electric utilities of Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont, and Loveland, and consists of two main components. The Electric Efficiency Program (EEP) offers incentive funding to businesses that upgrade to energy-efficient lighting, air conditioning, motors, drive systems, and process equipment. The Cooling Rebate Program (CRP) offers cash rebates to businesses that upgrade to energy-efficient central air conditioners and heat pumps.

Electric Efficiency Program

Platte River energy efficiency specialists assist commercial customers in identifying promising energy saving opportunities, and then turn these ideas into proposals detailing the efficiency measures to be implemented and their estimated costs, savings, and payback. Proposals are then submitted to Platte River for approval. If approved, Platte River will issue payment for the project once the installation has been verified.

In general, incentives are paid at the rate of $350 per kilowatt ($0.35 per watt) of average demand reduction for the summer peak period, from 3–7p.m., June through August. The maximum funding incentive available to any one participant is $70,000 per year. Funding is available on a first come, first serve basis.

Platte River looks for projects that achieve peak demand savings through energy efficiency or load shifting technologies, and have a minimum useful life of ten years. Energy efficiency measures typically included in approved projects include energy-efficient lighting; efficient refrigeration compressors, condensers and controls; variable speed drives for fans and motors; and variable air volume HVAC systems.

Cooling Rebate Program

CRP rebates are available for new and replacement equipment. Rebate amounts are outlined in the table below.
