The Northeast Metro Pollution Prevention Alliance (NEMPPA) is a non-profit
organization founded in 1996 by Conoco, Inc., the city of Commerce City, and the
Tri-County Health Department. NEMPPA works to promote the adoption of pollution
prevention principles and measures among business, industry, government, and the
community-at-large, with the goal of reducing the environmental and public heath
risks from pollution.
NEMPPA offers qualified local businesses in northeast Denver up to $3,000 to
implement energy efficiency measures in their facilities, aiming to lower energy
costs and reduce environmental impacts. To participate, businesses must be
located in the NEMPPA service area (defined by 36th Avenue to the south, Pecos
Street to the west, 120th Avenue to the north, and Tower Road to the east), and
have fewer than 100 employees.
Participating businesses receive a free detailed assessment of their
facility’s energy use. NEMPPA then uses this information to help the businesses
identify specific projects that will improve energy efficiency, and provides a
cost-benefit analysis for the project. Businesses are then eligible for up to
$3,000 for energy efficiency improvements, to be paid as a reimbursement once
the business demonstrates that the improvements have been installed or
implemented. NEMPPA will also provide assistance for businesses in need of
securing additional capital to complete larger energy efficiency projects.
Based upon average energy use and potential for increased efficiency, the
following types of businesses are ideal candidates for the program:
- Industrial and commercial machinery
- Computer equipment
- Fabricated metal products
- Printing, publishing, and allied industries
- Food and kindred products
