The mission of the Colorado Industries of the Future program is to assist
industry in improving energy efficiency, reducing waste, increasing the use of
renewable energy, and cutting costs through technical assistance and research
and development partnerships. The program is part of a national effort funded by
the U.S. Department of Energy, and is administered by the Colorado Governor’s
Office of Energy Management and Conservation.
Industries of the Future focuses on nine key industry sectors: agriculture,
aluminum, chemicals, forest products, glass, metal casting, mining, petroleum,
and steel. The program offers businesses in these sectors a variety of tools to
help improve productivity and meet program goals. These tools include computer
software to model energy uses and costs and evaluate the costs and benefits of
energy efficiency improvements; databases that provide information on energy
service providers, costs and operational experiences with energy efficiency and
productivity upgrades, and other information; research and development updates
on new technologies; and technical assistance options, including low- or no-cost
energy audits, training opportunities, and financial incentives.
Future plans for the program include developing a steering committee composed
of key industry representatives in each of the nine focus sectors; conducting
outreach to industry regarding technological developments; and planning a
technology exposition showcasing novel energy efficiency, pollution prevention,
and renewable energy technologies.
