Kansas City, Missouri-based Aquila is an investor-owned utility that provides electricity and natural gas to an area of southeastern Colorado centered around the city of Pueblo. Aquila offers one energy efficiency program to its Colorado commercial and industrial customers.

Aquila’s DSM Solicitation Program provides its commercial and industrial customers with incentives to replace standard efficiency equipment with high efficiency equipment. Rebates are provided for such measures as efficient lighting systems, efficient HVAC systems, cool storage, efficient motors, improved refrigeration systems, thermal upgrades, heat recovery systems, and building commissioning. Once a customer has identified an energy-efficient measure to install, Aquila evaluates the project for electricity savings, and if approved, reimburses the customer for a portion of the incremental installed cost difference between a standard product and a high-efficiency unit. The rebate level is customized based on the equipment’s incremental installed cost, peak demand reduction, annual energy use reduction, and annual energy cost savings.
