General Information:
URS Corporation is a full service engineering and management firm with a
global scope, offering a range of services from planning and design to
construction management and oversight. URS works to develop long-term energy
strategies that enable its customers to optimize their energy procurement to
meet demand and utilization requirements while improving energy efficiency, and
ultimately reducing energy costs. Services provided include establishing and
tracking energy consumption; identifying and evaluating process improvements and
operational changes that can lead to greater energy efficiency; and providing
assistance in selecting subcontractors and reviewing financing options. URS has
been operating in Colorado since 1957.

|
|
AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION: |
- URS works with customers to combine all aspects
of energy management (procurement, efficiency, and management systems) into
an integrated resource program that uses the least-cost resources to satisfy
energy demand. Pollution prevention and water conservation are also
incorporated into this program.

Awards:
In 2001, the American Consulting Engineers Council of Colorado awarded URS
two Engineering Excellence Awards, one for its work on a Nortel Networks energy
management project, and the other for investigation, design, and construction
oversight services at F.E. Warren Air Force Base.
Recent projects:
A recent project of note is a series of energy efficiency improvements made
for various Nortel Networks facilities located in the United States and Canada.
Energy savings measures implemented include lighting retrofits; new facility
control systems; new chillers, cooling towers, and boilers; development of an
energy procurement system; and integrated resource planning, including real-time
energy pricing and load control.
Use of savings guarantees:
URS does not incorporate savings guarantees into its energy services work.
Rather, URS uses value engineering and oversight over ESCO subcontractors to
ensure that the energy savings projected through system design and
implementation are met. Although customers are certainly free to seek out
guarantees through ESCO subcontractors, the impetus and motivation for such
guarantees is greatly reduced through URS’s management role in the project.
Financing options:
URS works with customers to secure project funding through third-party bank
financing, lease-purchase funding, or ESCO financing. Each financing package is
designed to best meet the customer’s needs and wants. By remaining flexible, URS
is able to leverage the customer’s resources to acquire financing packages best
suited for their present situation. Although URS does not provide financing
directly, URS will seek out attractive financing options and assist clients
throughout the bid and negotiation process.
