General Information:

LÖF Energy Systems designs, manufactures, installs, and services energy-saving motorized covers to reduce the cost of heating large indoor swimming pools. LÖF has been doing business in Colorado since 1984.

AREAS OF FOCUS:
  • school facilities
  • recreation centers
  • military bases
  • athletic clubs
AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION:
  • swimming pool covers

Recent projects:

Recent Colorado projects of note include providing motorized swimming pool cover systems for two pools in the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District in suburban Denver, and covers for six recreation centers operated by the city of Denver.

Use of savings guarantees:

LÖF assisted in the development of, and uses, the Department of Energy’s Energy Smart Pools computer software to estimate expected energy saved by use of a swimming pool cover. This energy analysis will reveal annual energy savings, approximate system cost, and return on investment for a specific customer’s pool conditions, weather conditions, pool-use schedule, and area utility prices. Because energy used in most pools is metered in combination with energy used elsewhere in the facility, LÖF installs measuring equipment which monitors usage exclusively for the pool, thereby enabling determination of savings obtained by use of pool covers. LÖF often works as a subcontractor, with its pool covers included as part of a larger ESCO project. In these situations, the energy savings from the covers may be included in the savings to be guaranteed by the primary ESCO contractor. LÖF does not routinely monitor cover use or underwrite predicted energy savings.

Financing options:

A pool cover may be one of several energy-saving measures being provided by an ESCO to an institution that has an indoor pool. LÖF Energy Systems, as subcontractor, manufactures and installs the pool cover. Financing of the entire project may be arranged with the ESCO prime contractor.
